THE Eddie Jones era got off to a winning start yesterday as England skipper Dylan Hartley lifted the Calcutta Cup in Edinburgh after a gritty and determined Six Nations performance.

It certainly wasn’t pretty to watch but Murrayfield was never going to be the easiest of venues for new England coach Jones to make his debut in charge.
Tries from George Kruis and Jack Nowell made the difference and captain Hartley said: “It’s a good start. Not the prettiest performance. We’re happy to get that one out the way. Scotland were ferocious at the breakdown.”
"We wanted to prove people wrong. We didn’t do great in the World Cup, but it’s gone now and we’re just having fun.
“Eddie Jones is a great guy. I hope we keep the right side of him because he’s a good man.”

Disappointed Scotland head coach Vern Cotter admitted his side hadn’t been accurate enough.
He said: “The players are very disappointed. I thought we created opportunities and didn’t finish them.
“There’s lots more to come from the team. We know we can do better. That game was there to be won.”
