London Welsh complete immediate return to the Aviva Premiership
LONDON WELSH made an immediate return to the Aviva Premiership last night after they beat Bristol at the Memorial Stadium.
Bristol, attempting to overcome a 19-point deficit from the first leg of the Championship final, made the brighter start but Nicky Robinson missed two penalty chances.
Gordon Ross put Welsh in front with a drop-goal, but Bristol replied soon after with a try by Andy Short following a crossfield kick by Robinson.
Ross and Robinson then swapped penalties either side of Welsh scrum-half Chris Cook’s yellow card for a deliberate knock-on.
Mitch Eadie stretched the home side’s lead just after the break with a try and, when Adam Hughes went over, Bristol were on top.
But late scores by Carl Kirwan and Seb Stegmann ensured Welsh’s promotion.
