Ireland hero Ronan O'Gara heading for retirement
RONAN O’GARA is set to call time on his career after Munster’s Heineken Cup dream ended with a 16-10 defeat against Clermont Auvergne. The fly-half, 36, will delay making any announcement until after Munster’s final game of the season on Friday.
But the emotional scenes in Montpellier following the semi-final suggest the decision has been made. He said: “My sole focus was facing Clermont. This competition has given me the best of my rugby memories. I’ll sleep on the decision until the end of the season .”
Heineken Cup top scorer O’Gara is also Test rugby’s third most-capped player (130).
As for Clermont, captain Julien Bonnaire said: “We now have the potential and resources to win the title.”
