Chris Froome wins the Giro d’Italia to complete historic Grand Tour treble
CHRIS FROOME says he is “pinching himself” after riding to victory at the Giro d’Italia.
The Team Sky rider completed the formality on a final day in Rome as he held on to his commanding position to win a historic Grand Tour treble.
Froome is only the seventh man to complete the treble following his success at the Vuelta and Tour de France.
He finished 46 seconds ahead of defending champion Tom Dumoulin in the standings.
Britain’s Simon Yates had led for most of the race and he claimed three stage wins.
I’m still pinching myself, I can’t believe it
"For any cyclist this is the dream to have all three leaders jerseys in the 10 months," Froome told Eurosport.
"To have finally won this race, I can't quite believe it myself.
“It was great to be able to soak up the atmosphere in Rome, the monuments and the crowds, that didn’t disappoint.
“I don’t think it’s sunk in yet, I’m sure it will once I’ve got a bit of time to reflect.
“It’s just incredible to have three leaders’ jerseys in the space of 12 months, an incredible feeling.
“I’m still pinching myself, I can’t believe it.”
