Fu, 39, was again in scintillating form in a 6-5 victory at Alexandra Palace. The world No8 knocked in breaks of 56, 64, 130, 88, 58, 110, 80 and 102 – with Trump left devastated after making two centuries of his own.
But Fu, who now plays Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen for a place in the semi-finals, admitted afterwards that he has always been allergic to alcohol.

“I never touch alcohol – I am allergic to it actually,” he said. I think that is a good thing.”
Meanwhile record seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry, 48, has opened the door to a sensational Crucible return. He will play in a revamped World Seniors in March, with the event carrying the additional carrot of a spot in the World Championship qualifiers.
