Justin Gatlin DROPPED from Athlete of Year list after protest
AMERICAN sprinter Justin Gatlin has been dropped from the shortlist for the World Athlete of the Year after protests.
Gatlin, 32, has served two doping bans but was still a contender for the IAAF award.
Lord Sebastian Coe was among those who criticised Gatlin's inclusion and the world's No1 discus thrower, German Robert Harting, refused to stand for election.
Gatlin was unbeaten this year and was the quickest in the world over 100m and 200m, a record that would normally make him favourite to be presented with the award next month in Monaco.
