Winter Olympics: Games rocked by cheating claim as Team GB star punished
Express Sport has live Winter Olympics updates from Milan-Cortina, including the latest on Lindsey Vonn after her crash, as well as all the best Team GB news.

Saturday's action saw Canadian curler Marc Kennedy be accused of cheating during his country's win over Sweden in the Winter Olympics.
Canada claimed an 8-6 victory in the round robin contest, but there was controversy when Oskar Eriksson of Sweden accused Kennedy of touching his stones after letting go, which is not allowed in the sport once the stone has crossed the hog line.
Elsewhere, Team GB speed skater Niall Treacy saw his position removed from his sixth-placed finish in the short track men's 1500m final due to a collision which knocked down two other competitors.
As a result, Treacy was dropped down to ninth place in the expanded final on Saturday.

World Curling statement amid cheating claims
World Curling has intervened after the Winter Olympics match between Canada and Sweden was mired by controversy on Fright night. Canada eventually secured an 8–6 round-robin victory at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.
However, the scoreline only told half the story as the Swedes believed one of the Canadians was repeatedly double-touching some of his stones - releasing the handle at the appropriate time but then giving the stone another little prod with his finger to correct its course.
And as the fallout continues, World Curling have released their own statement, which read: “Following the Friday evening session, World Curling spoke with the Canadian officials to issue a verbal warning regarding the language used by a Canadian men’s player during the game.
“During that meeting it was made clear to those officials that further inappropriate behaviour, determined by rule R.19, would result in additional sanctions. Rule R.19 states: “Improper conduct, foul or offensive language, equipment abuse, or wilful damage on the part of any team member is prohibited. Any violation may result in suspension of the offending person(s) by the curling organisation having jurisdiction.””
Cross-country skiing drama
Sweden's Ebba Andersson suffered a bizarre fall – but managed to still pick up a silver medal.
In dramatic scenes, Andersson led at the start of the second leg before she was overtaken by Norway's Astrid Oeyere Slind.
And having already fallen once, Andersson soon fell again, this time completing a full somersault for her troubles.
But the worst was still to come for Andersson, as one ski popped off and slid down the hill, forcing her to start running on one ski, holding the other.
The drama didn’t end, though; the Swedish technician, who was attempting to run off the course with the broken ski, also took a tumble himself.
Eventually, Andersson finished her leg – admirably only one minute and 18 seconds behind leaders Norway – leaving Karlsson and Jonna Sundling with plenty to do.
Sweden dropped to eighth, and though their hopes of gold were dashed, Olympic champions Karlsson and Sundling clawed back enough time to not only make the podium but also win an impressive silver.

Team GB's women curlers stun Canada
Team GB's women curlers stunned Canada as they secured their first victory in the competition. After defeats to China and South Korea, the British women's team came out on top against Canada, winning 7-6.
Reflecting on the win, captain Sophie Jackson told BBC Sport, "It just feels absolutely amazing to go out there and get our first win. We put the game together that we wanted to today – we had a good first half and carried that on in the second half."
They have six more round-robin matches to play, with a total of five or six wins potentially enough to clinch a semi-final place.

Games rocked by cheating claim
Canadian curler Marc Kennedy was accused of cheating in his country's expletive-laden victory over Sweden in the Winter Olympics. Despite taking place on ice, things became heated in the round-robin contest between the two curling heavyweights.
Canada, who were skipped by Brad Jacobs, managed to secure an 8-6 victory over Sweden, who were recently beaten by Team GB in one of their opening matches. But the biggest talking point of the game took place when Sweden's Oskar Eriksson repeatedly accused Kennedy of touching his stones after letting go, an act which is forbidden in curling once the stone has crossed the hog line. Furious at the cheating accusation, Kennedy responded with some heavy expletives for his opponents.
The Canadian pointed at himself, as if stunned that Eriksson was accusing him. He then shouted: "I haven't done it once. You can f*** off."
Undeterred by the fruity language of his rival, the Swede doubled down and shouted back. "I'll show you a video after the game. I'll show you a video where it's two meters over the hog line."
Matt Weston reveals exact moment when 'tears' hit
Matt Weston has been speaking the morning after he delivered Team GB’s first medal of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, he said: “The last couple of corners, I kind of knew I’d done a good job, but you can never tell, it’s racing.
“I had no idea what anyone else had done, I keep my helmet just low enough so that I can’t see any of the times when I’m at the block.
“As soon as I came up in the out run, all I was looking for was green numbers, and I saw them, and then the tears hit – I was just shocked at the bottom.
“Then my coach basically rugby tackled me and dived onto me at the end – I kind of knew I’d done a good job! I was as soon as I saw the green numbers, the tears started to be honest.”

Lindsey Vonn retirement theory shut down
Lindsey Vonn has still been tipped to compete at the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps by snowboard icon Shaun White - despite claims she could be months away from walking again.
The 41-year-old clipped a gate and fell just seconds into the race at the Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre in Cortina last Sunday, with Vonn airlifted off the mountain and eventually transferred to a hospital in Treviso, where she has already undergone three bouts of surgery.
According to orthopaedic expert knee specialist, Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, the impact of the injury could remain for the rest of her life. "The timeline is quite unpredictable," he told RMC Sport. "It will be months before she can walk normally again.
"Her goal now is first and foremost to keep her leg and be able to walk. I think we're not yet at the stage of returning to high-level skiing. We're not there yet, but some injuries like hers can end in amputation..."
Despite all the steps Vonn will need to take in the coming months and possibly years, former five‑time Olympian White believes she could still make a return at the 2030 Winter Olympics.
When asked whether that was realistic, he said: "Oh, for sure. She’s impressive Lindsey, you're a legend. You inspire us all.
"You're going to go down in history as the greatest and there's no disputing that. The fact that she came back from previous injuries and got back out on the mountain and then started to win, that's just got to be the most incredible feeling.
"But I've always told athletes, it's never a straight path to the Olympics. There's twists and turns and she hit a big hurdle, which was injuring the knees again."

Ilia Malinin leaves BBC pair stunned
Clare Balding was left stunned after Ilia Malinin finished eighth in the final of the men's single skating at the Winter Olympics – despite the Team USA star being the favourite to win gold.
Despite his most fierce challengers preceding his time on the ice, giving him what should have been a clear pathway to at least a podium place, the 21-year-old suffered a number of high-profile mistakes under immense pressure. As a result of falling twice, Malinin tallied a total of 264.49 – his lowest free skate score in years.
As a result, Malinin dropped to eighth in the standings, while Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov secured gold with a score of 291.58. Japan's Yugi Kagiyama and Shun Sato secured silver and bronze, respectively, with scores of 280.06 and 274.90.
Reacting to Malinin's performance, Balding was left stunned. Speaking to BBC Sport, she said: "We didn’t expect that anything could happen to Ilia Malinin, but it did – and he will leave these Games without a medal."
BBC commentator Kat Downes, meanwhile, was also astounded at Malinin's fumble. She added: "This is taking some computing from everybody.
"The 'quadgod' has fallen. Beaten for the first time in two years, the gold that was supposed to be his. That was supposed to be the most predictable gold of this games but Ilia Malinin has fallen to eighth.”

Clare Balding forced to stop BBC coverage
Clare Balding was forced to momentarily pause the BBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics, as Lizzy Yarnold was reduced to tears by Matt Weston's heroics.
The Team GB athlete became not only the first British man to win a gold medal in the skeleton on Friday evening but also clinched his nation's first gold since the women's curling at the 2022 games in Beijing.
Shortly after speaking about Weston's heroics, Yarnold broke down in tears and put her hands over her face. Balding then stepped in to take over presenting while Yarnold collected herself.
