Paris Olympics star is one of world's richest men's son-in-law worth millions himself
Nayel Nassar will compete in show jumping for Team Egypt at the Paris Olympics - and is also Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates's son-in-law.
The son-in-law of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is competing at the Paris Olympics. Nayel Nassar is part of Egypt’s equestrian team and will be battling for a medal in show jumping.
It is the second Olympics that Nassar has qualified for, having been part of Egypt’s first show jumping team in 60 years at the Tokyo Games. The 33-year-old has also represented Egypt at three FEI World Cup finals, plus the 2014 World Equestrian Games.
Nassar has earned several huge paydays throughout his career, including being a three-time winner in the HITS $1m (£778,000) Grand Prix at the Longines Masters. However, his impressive windfalls pale in comparison to the $130.9bn (£101bn) net worth of his world-famous father-in-law.
The equestrian star began dating Jennifer Gates, the eldest daughter of Bill and Melinda Gates, in 2017. The couple announced their engagement in 2020 and married in October 2021. Subsequently, they welcomed the arrival of daughter Leila last year and recently announced that they are expecting their second child.
Both Nassar and Gates, 28, are Stanford University graduates, while the latter also enjoyed a successful equestrian career, though she did not represent Team USA at the Olympics. The married couple operate the Evergate Stables together, which have locations in Rancho Santa Fe, California and Wellington, Florida.
Bill Gates, 68, has already been spotted attending Olympic events in France. The ninth richest person in the world, according to Forbes, will hope to see his son-in-law compete for an Olympic medal.

Upon celebrating their second wedding anniversary last October, Nassar dedicated an Instagram post to his wife: “2 years ago today I had the privilege of marrying my best friend, my confidante, my wife,” he wrote. “I love you more and more every day @jenngatesnassar, would marry you all over again in a heartbeat. Happy Anniversary.”
Nassar was born in Chicago to Egyptian parents and raised in Kuwait before studying for his Economics degree at Stanford. His parents own the architectural firm Diwan Interiors International, whose high-profile clients have included JW Marriott and Mercedes Benz and has recorded an annual revenue of $6.7m (£5.1m) to date.
Describing his parents as his biggest influence, Nassar has spoken about how they ignited his passion for horse riding: "My parents put me in a bunch of sports, and I started out riding once or twice a week,” Nassar said. “I played football, basketball, some volleyball and tennis, but riding stuck."
