Laura Trott makes Olympic history with Omnium victory in Rio
LAURA TROTT has become Olympic champion for a record fourth time.
Laura Trott wins gold
The Essex cyclist retained her Omnium title after surviving the 100-lap, 25km points race at the Rio Olympic Velodrome.
This is Trott’s second Olympic title in Rio, following the women’s team pursuit triumph on Saturday, and it means, added to the crowns enjoyed at London 2012, she is the first woman in British sporting history to win four Olympic gold medals.
It is an incredible achievement for the 24-year-old, who has won every Olympic final she has contested.
On Monday, equestrian rider Charlotte Dujardin drew level with her third Olympic gold medal but now Trott is out on her own and with the potential of increasing her advantage even further.
Olympian Laura Trott hopes to inspire female athletes
The women’s Omnium is a five-disciplined cycling event, held over two days.
This gold caps another successful Olympics for the British Cycling squad, specifically on the track.
