London 2012: IAAF president confirms athlete returns positive from drugs test
IAAF president Lamine Diack confirmed last night that a leading athlete has returned a positive drugs test.
A report in French sports daily L’Equipe named Morocco’s Mariem Alaoui Selsouli, the favourite for the 1,500metres, as having tested positive for a banned diuretic.
Diack said: “I heard about it last night. I’ll not make a comment other than, ‘You will follow the rules or you will be suspended’.”
Selsouli served a two-year ban from 2009 to 2011 for an earlier doping offence.
