Seville stars in Oaks Trial
STAR OF SEVILLE still has a major role to play in the Investec Oaks despite a prima donna performance in winning York’s Musidora Stakes yesterday.
Star of Seville will be hoping to make a big impression at Investec Oaks
Trainer John Gosden may well have a successor to last year’s Oaks herione Taghrooda, but the bookmakers certainly aren’t convinced.
Making all under Frankie Dettori, Star Of Seville quickened into a winning lead two out but was being cut down inside the last furlong by market rival Together Forever, who was repelled, fairly comfortably, by a head.
After his flying dismount, Dettori said: “She’s a character but she’s very talented. She had the race won but all of a sudden she decided to wait for the others and put her brakes on. When the other horse came, she ran on again.” Together Forever was conceding 4lb for winning a Group One last year and Boylesports cut her to 8-1 for Epsom.
Gosden’s habit of running Group class horses in handicaps paid further dividends when Mahsoob landed the 888sport Stakes.
But punters who backed the 11-4 favourite had to sweat as he came wide from almost last to first to win going away by a half length.
