No stopping Quevega bandwagon
WONDER mare Quevega won the Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival for the fourth year in a row – although a lot of interest in the race was lost when favourite Solwhit was withdrawn before the start on veterinary advice.
She’s a brilliant little mare. She’s been exceptionally well placed and trained.
The Willie Mullins-trained Quevega, who was made to work hard for a record fifth Mares’ Hurdle win at the Cheltenham Festival last month, was left with what appeared a relatively straightforward task after Solwhit was taken out.
And so it proved as the nine-year old brushed aside the challenge of Reve De Sivola, who had cut out most of the running. Winning jockey Ruby Walsh said: “She’s a brilliant little mare. She’s been exceptionally well placed and trained.”
