15 Godolphin horses suspended by the British Horseracing Authority
FIFTEEN horses at the centre of the Godolphin doping scandal have been suspended by the British Horseracing Auhtority.
The horses which were administered anabolic steroids by their trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni, have been suspended for six months by a BHA disciplinary panel.
Jamie Stier, Director of Raceday Operations and Regulation for the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), made a statement which read: "The BHA has today informed Godolphin, the owners of the horses in question, that the 15 horses known to have been administered with either Ethylestranol or Stanozolol have been suspended from running in races for a period of six months, with effect from Tuesday 9 April.
"The length of suspension reflects the period beyond which the BHA is confident that the horses in question can have derived no performance related benefit from the administration of these prohibited substances.
A verdict on Al Zarooni's punishment is expected to be reached before the end of the day.
