Godolphin trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni charged over doping scandal
GODOLPHIN trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni has been charged after tests confirmed that traces of anabolic steroids were found in 11 of his horses.
The horses, which are based at Newmarket tested positive for steroids, including stanozol, which was taken by the disgraced Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Al Zarooni regretted making a "catastrophic mistake" earlier this week.
Al Zarooni will appear before a British Horseracing Authority (BHA) disciplinary panel tomorrow.
He could stand to lose his training licence, and one of his fillies, Certify, will not race in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket next month.
