Tartan Snow edges out Cool Friend in the John Smith's Fox Hunters' Steeple Chase
TARTAN SNOW caused an upset by winning the John Smith's Fox Hunters' Steeple Chase race on the opening day of the Grand National festival at Aintree.
The horse was a rank outsider at 100-1, however put in a stunning performance to win a tight race from Cool Friend.
The race was delayed as Cloudy Lane and Sizing America weren't behind the the starting line, adding to the air of tension.
But the race provided a dramatic denouement as Tartan Snow, who has only won once away from Kelso, claimed a historic win.
We didn't know how he would adapt, but he's pulled out everything. It's unbelievable
Tartan Snow's trainer Stuart Coltherd: "He deserves this today.
