Cheltenham 2013: Hurricane Fly writes piece of history to win Champion Hurdle
HURRICANE FLY stormed to victory in a thrilling Champion Hurdle race on Day 1 at the Cheltenham Festival.
He had the measure of Rock on Ruby who was the early pacesetter and came back strong to become only the second horse to successfully defend the Champion Hurdle title.
Comedy of Errors in 1975 was the last horse to regain the Champion Hurdle.
The horse was much-fancied as he was the 13-8 favourite and he didn't disappoint as he stormed to victory.
We thought he was in good form and he did what we came over here to do
The winning trainer Willie Mullins told BBC Radio 5 live: "We thought he was in good form and he did what we came over here to do.
"Ruby gave him a fantastic ride in what was a fast-paced race."
Rocky on Ruby (11/2) came second, with Countrywide Flame (16/1) finishing third.
