Cheltenham 2013: Golden Chieftain shoots down field in JLT Speciality Chase
GOLDEN CHIEFTAIN stole the show as he surged to victory in the JLT Speciality Chase on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival.
The horse ridden by Brendan Powell, which was given odds of 28/1, was never in contention in the early stages of the race, but he routed the field to claim victory by 10 lengths.
Locha Ba and Tour des Champs fell away to which was a surprise.
His thrilling finish dashed the hopes of red hot favourite, Our Mick, who was given odds of 13/2 by the bookmakers before the race.
Powell was ecstatic as he led his horse to the winners enclosure.
It is a dream come true. I'm grateful for the ride. I never thought I would ride a winner
He told BBC Radio 5 live: "It is amazing.
"It's amazing. I have to pinch myself - I don't think I'm awake. He won by a long way , but he always had the class to do it."
Our Mick finished second with White Star Line in third.
