Hurricane flies in
LEOPARDSTOWN suffered all manner of weather systems yesterday – and then a hurricane blew through.
Having his first run since May, Hurricane Fly routed his rivals to win the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle for the second year running. Now he is odds-on with most bookmakers to repeat his victory in the Stan James Champion
Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. In wet and murky conditions, Hurricane Fly never came off the bridle in the hands of Ruby Walsh to beat Oscars Well by almost seven lengths.
The impressive manner of the victory appeared to catch even his trainer Willie Mullins unawares.
“It is a complete surprise to me how well he did it,” said Mullins. “My first reaction is it might be his best ever performance.”
