The Open: Rickie Fowler goes off the rails with tee shot
RICKIE FOWLER proved a danger to local trains by twice hitting his tee shot at the 11th onto the neighbouring railway track.
Rickie Fowler was a bit wayward with one tee shot
When Arnold Palmer described the hole – named The Railway – as “the most dangerous I’ve ever seen” he was not referring to the possible perils for train passengers.
Luckily, the only damage Fowler caused yesterday was to his score as he carded an eight on his way to a 76 – four-over for the tournament.
Fellow American Bubba Watson looked to have avoided trouble at the hole when he landed his tee shot within bounds.
An awful approach, though, saw his ball hit the rails as he went on to pick up a seven. He got back on track with two birdies in the final seven holes to stay at five-over.
