Peter Schmeichel is saving grace for Thorbjorn Olesen
EUROPE’S surprise flag-bearer at Augusta has revealed how the on-course support of a Manchester United legend helped him deliver sixth place in his first Masters.
It was great to have the support of one of my heroes
Dane Thorbjorn Olesen picked up a cheque for £175,000 after recovering from a first-round 78 to underline the rich promise which has led to him being pencilled in for the Ryder Cup defence at Gleneagles next year.
Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel followed countryman Olesen around Augusta as the 23-year-old closed with a pair of 68s to finish as the leading European.
“I have played quite a lot of golf with him – he is a really nice guy – and it was great to have the support of one of my heroes,” said Olesen.
