Paul McGinley salutes Adam Scott after Masters triumph
PAUL McGINLEY heaped praise on Adam Scott after his extraordinary Masters triumph at Augusta.
The Australian, who has jumped to World No.3, pipped Angel Cabrera to the title in a dramatic play-off which finished late Sunday night.
His victory exorcised the ghosts of the Open last year, when he was four shots ahead of the field with four to play, but he self-imploded with the Claret Jug well within view.
In the process, he became the first Australian to get his hands on the famous green jacket.
McGinley, who helped Europe overcome the USA in the Ryder Cup last September in Medinah, said he didn't doubt that Scott would be able to complete the job this time round.
In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, he said: "At the Open, the golfing gods didn't shine on him, however he made a great shot at 10 in the play-off and was very good in the regulation holes."
McGinley did however express his disappointment at the way the Europeans failed to sustain a challenge.
He added: "It was disappointing that no one was in pushing distance.
"However, it was always going to be tough. Getting into contention is the hard bit."
