Scottie Scheffler was defeated in a playoff at the RBC Heritage by Matt Fitzpatrick yet still walked away with £1.6million for his runner-up finish. Caddie Ted Scott will also benefit handsomely from this sum under their existing arrangement.

The final round of the 2026 Heritage proved to be a memorable affair. Fitzpatrick, the 2023 champion at Harbour Town, carried a three-shot advantage into Sunday but endured an alarming collapse on the back nine. Despite commanding that lead with just four holes remaining, Scheffler reeled him in and capitalised on the Englishman's errors, forcing a playoff. Fitzpatrick's approach on the first extra hole to 12 feet was then coolly converted for a superb birdie, securing him a second tartan jacket.

For his efforts, Scheffler pocketed approximately £1.6m from the total £15m prize fund on offer in South Carolina. Under an agreement between Scheffler and his bagman Scott - with the golfer himself conceding he is something of a child when it comes to managing his finances back in 2024 - the caddie is set to receive a percentage of those earnings.

The precise terms of the arrangement between Scott and Scheffler remain undisclosed, though it is widely understood that caddies typically pocket around 10 per cent of prize money when their player wins outright, and roughly seven per cent for a top-10 finish.

At the Masters, Scheffler's superb weekend saw him finish just one stroke behind winner Rory McIlroy and collect around £1.81m. Scott therefore earned between an approximate £126,000 and £181,000.

Given Scheffler's second-place finish at the Heritage, it can be estimated that Scott will earn between £112,000 and £160,000, depending on the terms of his arrangement with Scheffler. Scott has been on Scheffler's bag since 2021 and provided guidance during his two Masters victories and triumphs at the PGA Championship and The Open in 2025.

Last year alone, Scott pocketed somewhere between an estimated £1.8m and £2.2m from PGA Tour prize money earned by the current world No.1. In 2024, Scheffler admitted he has someone else handle paying Scott because he can be "like a child" when it comes to finances.

"It's been a fun year, I don't really think about the money that much," Scheffler admitted when speaking on the Pardon My Take podcast in 2024. I think that kind of becomes a big deal with the FedEx and everything but, at the end of the day, I'm just playing golf. And the money is just a gift on top of that.

"We have a girl that helps us pay bills basically because I'm a child and can't keep track of all that stuff! She quickly took over that job and texts me at the end of each week, saying: 'Hey, this is how much we're paying Ted'. I'm like, 'That's great'."
