Masters champion’s true character on show after painful end with no shot at £7.8m prize
Former Masters winner Adam Scott ended his PGA Tour regular season on Sunday after failing to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs, though he remains positive.

Adam Scott, the 2013 Masters champion, tied for 55th at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday, dashing his hopes of qualifying for the FedExCup Playoffs. This means Scott is out of the running for the Tour Championship's top £7.8million prize.
Over the weekend, Cameron Young became the 1,000th unique PGA Tour winner with a six-shot victory in North Carolina, marking the end of the Tour's regular season. The top 70 golfers in the standings now advance to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of three playoff events. Regrettably, Green Jacket-owner Scott will be missing after describing the Wyndham as a 'do or die' tournament and performing below par, thus eliminating himself from the Tour Championship equation.
With the 70-player post-season field now confirmed, the FedEx St. Jude will reduce this number to 50 based on standings. These stars will then proceed to the BMW Championship in mid-August.
This second of three playoff events will further reduce the number of participants to 30 for the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta on August 21. All who make the final field will also automatically qualify for the eight signature events on the Tour next term.
However, Scott will not be among the golfers competing for that £7.8m winner's prize after his tied 55th-placed finish on Sunday resulted in him ending the regular season placed 90th. Following this disappointment, the 45-year-old took to social media and displayed his true character with a positive and optimistic message.
"Didn't quite make the playoff push I was hoping for, but grateful for the journey and more motivated than ever," he wrote. "Back to the grind and eyes on the next one. See you at the BMW PGA Championship in September!"

According to this announcement, it seems Scott will next appear at the BMW PGA Championship in England next month, not to be mistaken for the playoff BMW Championship occurring in Maryland on August 14. Similar to Scott, reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy will be missing in Memphis this week, though this stems from the Northern Irishman's personal choice.
McIlroy, who sits securely at No. 2 in the current FedExCup rankings behind a commanding Scottie Scheffler, endured difficulties at the tournament last year and disclosed in November that he would be avoiding it for 2025.
"There's a few tournaments that I played this year that I don't usually play and that I might not play next year," McIlroy told the Telegraph. "I'll probably not play the first playoff event in Memphis. I mean, I finished basically dead last there this year [tied for 68], and only moved down one spot in the playoff standings."
World No. 1 Scheffler will be attending this opening playoff event of three, which will signal his comeback following his remarkable triumph at The Open last month.
