Sandy Lyle has a day of disaster at the Masters
SANDY Lyle admitted he felt like he was using a square ball after producing one of the worst rounds in Masters history.
Lyle’s 86 was 17 strokes worse than his first round, as he missed the cut.
“I never got it going at all. I was just very bad,” said Lyle. “For the first eight or nine holes I was playing with a square golf ball.”
He had ended the opening round just three strokes off the lead with a 69. But yesterday he crashed to an 11-over 155.
A triple-bogey six at the 12th epitomised his day as he took two shots to escape a bunker. “I had a whack at it and only moved the ball about an inch,” he said. “Another whack and it went flying across into the water, so that sums the day up.”
