Tony Finau: Masters fans sent into MELTDOWN over American’s Nike Air Max golf shoes
TONY FINAU charged to the top of the leaderboard on Day Three of The Masters with some scintillating play, but it was his golf shoes which took social media by storm.
Tony Finau injures ankle celebrating hole-in-one
Finau started the day at three-under par, four shots off the overnight leaders from Friday.
But the American quickly put himself in the mix with three birdies in the opening three holes.
Another birdie at six followed by an eagle at eight, tying a Masters record for a six-under par 30 through the front nine.
And he maintained his strong form in the back nine, birdying the 13th and 15th to put him on 11-under for the tournament.
MASTERS LEADERBOARD LIVE: LATEST UPDATES FROM AUGUSTA NATIONAL
But while Finau was tearing up Augusta National and setting course records, it was his attire that got fans talking on social media.
One tweeted: “Tony Finau has the best shoes today.”
Another posted: “I just want Tony Finau’s golf shoes…”
A third said: “Tony Finau deserves to win the Masters just for all these fire Air Max golf spikes he’s been wearing.”
A fourth tweeted: Finau leading the masters while rocking a pair of air max hahaha what a veteran.”
The Nike Air Max 1 G’s are on sale on Nike’s official website with retail price being $120.
Finau hit the headlines at the 2018 Masters as well after the gut-wrenching scene of him dislocating his ankle while celebrating a hole-in-one at the Par-3 contest.
He nonchalantly popped his ankle back in and then amazingly went on to card a first round score of 68 on the Thursday along with a 66 on the Sunday to finish tied for 10th.
But the 29-year-old definitely saw the funny side of the incident one years after it happening this time around.
He returned to take part in the Par-3 contest this week, but came prepared to ensure nothing similar would ever happen again by hilariously putting on a device to protect his ankle.
