Bryson DeChambeau gets incredibly unlucky with EAGLE effort on 18 at the Masters WATCH
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU was cruelly denied a stunning eagle on the final hole of his first round at the 2019 Masters on Thursday.
The Masters 2019: DeChambeau denied eagle by PIN
The world number six made a scorching start to his pursuit of the world famous Green Jacket, ending the first day of play six under.
And his opening round almost ended with the shot of The Masters tournament.
Following a slightly wayward tee shot at the 18th, the Californian found himself in the rough.
He more than made up for it with his next shot, though, which hurtled through the air towards the green.
As the ball landed on the green, it was on course to roll right into the hole.
The Augusta crowd, as well as DeChambeau, soon began willing the ball in.
The pace on the ball, however, made it cannon off the flag and denied DeChambeau the shot of the competition so far - ironic due to the American's preference of putting with the flag in since the rule change at the start of the year.
However DeChambeau was delighted with his performance on day one and promised more impressive shots shortly after the close of play.
I should have pulled that pin on 18
"I hit my shots beautifully," said DeChambeau.
"We changed every shaft on the clubs leading into this, it's pretty cool to understand the dynamics around this and there is something special to come."
A few hours later, he tweeted: “I should have pulled that pin on 18.
“Happy overall with the round, especially ending on such a high note.
“Tee time is 10:42 tomorrow.”
DeChambeau ended up shooting 66 in his first round and is currently the joint leader along with Brooks Koepka.
