Tiger Woods wanted to CRY throughout his Tour Championship winning round
TIGER WOODS has admitted he found it hard holding back the tears as he went on to win the Tour Championship.
Woods had been stuck on 79 PGA Tour wins since 2013 and a host of injury issues over the years made it look increasingly unlikely he would ever add number 80.
However, a remarkable return to top form in 2018 had event the most pessimistic fan dreaming of Woods returning to the winner’s circle.
And it all came to fruition this week at East Lake from the very first day.
Woods sat atop the leaderboard throughout the weekend and never looked like falling.
However, as the winning moment drew nearer on Sunday, Woods has admitted his emotions almost got the better of him.
“I was having a hard time not crying,” Woods said.
"I just can't believe I pulled this off. It's been tough.
“I’ve had a not so easy last couple years.
“I couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone around me and some of the players that I saw after on the 18th green knew what I was struggling with.
“It was really special to see them there.
“It’s just hard to believe I’ve won the Tour Championship.”
At one stage, Woods was also projected to win the FedEx Cup outright with Justin Rose dropping rapidly down the leaderboard.
But the world No 1 rallied back on the 18th to register a birdie to ensure he walked away as the FedEx Cup champion.
