Rio Ferdinand reveals what Man City's Vincent Kompany said in private chat before Chelsea
RIO FERDINAND has revealed all on the private chat he had with Vincent Kompany minutes before the Community Shield clash with Chelsea.
Kompany has been named on the bench by boss Pep Guardiola - just weeks after helping Belgium to a third-placed finish at the World Cup.
While other clubs' stars are enjoying long holidays after the showpiece event in Russia, centre-back Kompany has returned almost immediately to the Etihad.
He was questioned about that by Ferdinand, who was working for BT Sport, at Wembley today.
And it appears his decision to come back was down to a hunger not to lose his place in the City side.
I'm desperate to get back, I want to be in this team and it's great to be around the boys
"I was just speaking to Vincent Kompany there before the warm-up. I asked him 'how long did you have?' He said two weeks," Ferdinand said.
"I was like 'woah, you must need a little bit more'.
"He said 'no, I'm desperate to get back, I want to be in this team and it's great to be around the boys'.
"When you're winning, when you've got success in front of you, you can't wait to be on the training ground.
"If they don't all want to be here, all want to play, someone will come in and take your place and you'll have to sit out for weeks.
"It doesn't bode well for everyone else, for me."
