Liverpool transfer news: Reds stance on Nabil Fekir revealed with deadline six days away
LIVERPOOL's stance on Lyon star Nabil Fekir has been revealed with the transfer deadline now just six days away.
Nabil Fekir appears to drop major hint over Liverpool transfer
Liverpool came close to signing Fekir from Lyon back in June with the 24-year-old posing in the club’s colours and conducting an interview with their in-house television channel.
A move to Anfield, however, fell through with the Reds pulling the plug due to concerns over Fekir’s ongoing knee problems.
Liverpool remain favourites to sign Fekir with the bookies despite Chelsea and Manchester United links emerging.
But the Liverpool Echo claim that, despite the transfer deadline creeping closer, they have no plans to reignite their interest in the World Cup winner.
Fekir was wanted as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.
Coutinho left Liverpool for Barcelona back in January, signing for the Catalan giants in a huge £142million deal.
The Reds made a new No 10 the priority for the summer but it appears Jurgen Klopp has now changed his mind.
Klopp strengthened Liverpool’s attack last month by landing Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke in a £12million deal.
And the Liverpool Echo suggest there is no chance of Fekir rocking up at Anfield over the next week.
Arsenal legend Robert Pires thinks differently, though, and has urged Klopp to get a deal done.
Fekir and Alisson will make Liverpool contenders say experts
He said: “Fekir would be a good fit for the Premier League and a great signing for Liverpool.
“I don’t know why the deal broke down at the medical earlier this summer.
“But Fekir is a great player and would be a good signing for Liverpool.”
Liverpool have had a fruitful summer, welcoming Naby Keita, Fabinho, Shaqiri and Alisson Becker to Merseyside.
And they are unlikely to strengthen their squad before next Thursday’s 5pm deadline.
