Everton transfer news: Everton blasted as ‘SHAMBLES’ in Man Utd transfer rant
EVERTON have been blasted as a shambles for their summer transfer business.
Everton announce signing of Lucas Digne
The Toffees have spent £40million on Watford’s Richarlison while Lucas Digne has arrived for £18m.
But transfer expert Ian McGarry has been left unimpressed by the business because the club have paid over-the-top fees - just like Manchester United.
He told the Transfer Window podcast: “I’ve expressed my disdain about the fee (for Richarlison).
“I think Everton’s transfer business has been even more shambolic than Manchester United’s in terms of the fees they pay for players who I don’t think justify that level of investment.
“This is a player who was at best inconsistent for Watford.
“I think Everton were well warned by Gylfi Sigurdsson’s performances last season.
Everton: Richarlison £45 million signing is 'absurd' says pundit
“Therefore with the lack of front players, Everton had an overload of No 10s last season, Cenk Tosun aside they don’t really have a proven 20-goal a season striker.”
Marco Silva replaces Sam Allardyce in the dugout heading into the new campaign and, after a false dawn last season following a summer of hefty spending, keeper Jordan Pickford believes the signings of Richarlison and Digne can help Everton get it right this time around.
"Yes, I think it is a massive club and the club is only going in the right direction," he said when asked if the new signings were a signal of intent.
"We want to do better. We finished eighth last season and so we want to get better than seventh, get into the top six.
"The Premier League is a hard league and it is hard to get a win in any game, but we want to please the fans and make the fans happy and the way to do that is win games."
