Man Utd news: Paul Scholes delivers Premier League title ultimatum to Jose Mourinho
JOSE MOURINHO must win the Premier League title with Manchester United this season.
That is according to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.
In his two seasons at United, Mourinho has failed to win the title but has had success in the League Cup and Europa League.
United finished a distant second to Premier League champions Manchester City and with several players due to return from the World Cup late, Mourinho faces a tough start to the season.
Scholes won the league 11 times under Sir Alex Ferguson and he believes Mourinho has no excuse not to reclaim the title they last won in 2013.
I think he’s got every resource available to him to have a team to win the league
Scholes told beIN SPORTS: “I think he’s got every resource available to him to have a team to win the league.
“That’s what the fans expect. That’s what I’m sure his bosses above him expect.
“They haven’t won the league for five years, they had a great run of winning titles but they are a big club.
“It’s like a Barcelona or Real Madrid you are expected to win every year. You are expected to win something [and] United are expected to win the league, full stop.”
Scholes has been a regular critic of Mourinho and the former United midfielder feels things at the club would be different if Pep Guardiola was the manager.
“(Mourinho) doesn’t look happy to me,” Scholes added.
“As a football person, if you’re a coach and you see your team playing - he may be happy [with the style of play].
“It’s a team who grind out results rather than really impresses you - and that’s probably what he is happy with, that’s where he has been at his best over the years.
“If Guardiola was manager of Manchester United he would hate what he was seeing - and it would be different. But, the most important thing to him is results, he will be judged on that.”
