Liverpool transfer news: Nabil Fekir deal progressing well despite Jurgen Klopp claims
LIVERPOOL’s deal for Lyon star Nabil Fekir is progressing well despite Jurgen Klopp insisting the Reds would not be making any more signings this month.
Fekir and Alisson will make Liverpool contenders say experts
Liverpool were close to prising Fekir away from Lyon last month before the player’s involvement at the World Cup in Russia.
However, the transfer collapsed - with Express Sport understanding the Reds pulled the plug amid fears over Fekir’s long-term history of knee problems.
Liverpool have had a fruitful summer so far, adding Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho and Alisson Becker to their squad.
Klopp has since claimed the Reds will not be signing anyone, saying: "We have everything we need for the next season because I don’t think we will do anything more (in the market), I’m pretty sure of that.
“We have the squad now for the moment, and that’s the most important thing.
“We were not too bad last year but we had to improve and we tried that on the transfer market.”
Despite that, however, Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones claims a deal for Fekir remains in the works.
“Am told Fekir now progressing well again...This could be a defining week for Liverpool,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Lyon have released a statement, detailing plans to honour Fekir for winning the World Cup.
"Nabil Fekir will be presented with the trophy of the World Cup for his return to Groupama Stadium on Sunday 12 August, on the occasion of the 1st day of the Ligue 1 and the reception of Amiens at 3pm!" it said.
Should Liverpool fail to sign Fekir, however, the player will not be short of offers.
Manchester United have been tipped to sign him with Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas claiming he had talked with Jose Mourinho about a deal.
La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked.
But where he ends up by the time the transfer window shuts remains to be seen.
