Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho admits Alexis Sanchez uncertainty after Club America clash
JOSE MOURINHO says he does not know when he will be able to call upon Alexis Sanchez in pre-season.
Man United: Sanchez hints at joining team-mates in America
The Manchester United winger was left behind as the Red Devils flew a 24-man contingent out to the United States for a five-game tour due to visa issues.
Mourinho was without the Chilean winger as United drew 1-1 with Mexican side Club America in the early hours of this morning in Phoenix, Arizona.
Anthony Martial led the line flanked by Juan Mata and Demetri Mitchell before the United boss experimented with his line-up and handed appearances to teenage talents Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes.
Juan Mata’s effort cancelled out a Henry Martin header as a youthful United side earned a hard-fought draw, with Tahith Chong the stand-out performer.
Sanchez has been given the green light to join up with the United squad having now been granted a visa following a problem relating to a 16-month suspended jail sentence for tax fraud which the 29-year-old accepted back in February.
But with United facing San Jose Earthquakes in California on Sunday (10pm), Mourinho admitted that he does not know whether or not he will be able to count upon Sanchez among his options.
Mourinho told MUTV: “I don’t know. I don’t even know if he’s flying, if he’s in LA, if he’s in Manchester.
“I have no idea about it. No [Romelu] Lukaku, no [Marcus] Rashford for sure. We’ll have to try with what we have.”
On the game against Club America overall, Mourinho continued: “It was good. After five days of training you need to play and you need to play against a team that is three days distance to start their Mexican league.
“It was a team with intensity and a team with quality that pushed us to levels that we are not prepared for. It was a good training session.”
After San Jose, United take part in the International Champions Cup with glamour ties against AC Milan, rivals Liverpool and Real Madrid.
