Liverpool transfer news: Alisson compared to Man Utd’s David De Gea
ALISSON can have a similar impact at Liverpool than David De Gea has had at Manchester United.
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former Fulham striker Brian McBride.
Alisson has completed a world-record move to the Reds from Roma.
The Brazil No 1 has cost £66.8million, which almost doubles the £34.7m paid for the current most expensive goalkeeper - Manchester City’s Ederson.
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol defended the price tag of Alisson, saying he can make a big difference to his former side’s league position.
Look at what De Gea has done for Manchester United. That is legitimate 10 points there
“This guy’s going to give Liverpool an extra 12 points a season,” Nicol said.
McBride agrees and believes spending large amount of money on a goalkeeper has shown it can be a success, such as David De Gea at United.
“Yeah (it’s expensive) but look at what De Gea has done for Manchester United,” McBride said.
“That is legitimate 10 points there.”
Alisson impresses with incredible distribution skills
Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson added that a top goalkeeper is key to a side who have aspirations to win the league.
“Anybody that wants to win the title, has to have a good, top-class goalkeeper,” Robson said.
“It’s always been in history, always had top-class goalkeepers.”
