Barcelona transfer news: Plans in turmoil as PSG meet Ajax sensation
BARCELONA’s push to sign Ajax youngster Frenkie De Jong have been thrown into turmoil by PSG.
Barcelona are understood to be keen on signing De Jong and have held talks with his representatives.
His agent, Ali Dursun, has been to Barcelona three times for discussions.
But a £44.2m move from Ajax could be ruined by PSG’s involvement.
According to Spanish newspaper SPORT, the Paris club are trying to hijack the deal ahead of Barca.
PSG manager Thomas Tuchel wants to strengthen his midfield and De Jong is seen as a credible addition to his side.
Ajax themselves are open to selling after signing Daley Blind from Manchester United this week.
It means they can now cash in on 21-year-old De Jong, who is yet to make an appearance for the Netherlands national side.
SPORT add that PSG director Antero Henrique has opened talks with De Jong’s agent to work out how a deal could be secured ahead of Barcelona.
De Jong prefers to join the Nou Camp club and Ajax are yet to receive any firm offers from either side.
De Jong is not the only midfielder PSG are interested in, with N’Golo Kante and Julian Weigl also on their radar.
A move for Radja Nainggolan failed, with the Belgian heading to Inter Milan from Roma earlier this summer.
As for Barcelona, they will no doubt be furious if PSG snatch their transfer target ahead of them.
The two clubs share a fractious relationship that stems from last summer’s transfer window, when Barca tried to put public pressure on Marco Verratti to sign without PSG’s consent, before the Ligue 1 giants triggered Neymar’s release clause and forced through a £200m hostile transfer.
