Arsenal news: Unai Emery opens up on Arsene Wenger and Man Utd comparisons
ARSENAL manager Unai Emery has spoken about comparisons with Arsene Wenger and the recent Manchester United situation.
Emery took over from Wenger, who departed after 22 years in charge, earlier this summer.
Manchester United faced a similar change when Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in 2013 with David Moyes replacing him.
Moyes lasted less than a season with the Red Devils as he struggled to replicate Ferguson’s success.
But Spaniard Emery is determined to make it different for him while keeping Wenger in mind.
“This is different to United,” Emery said.
“I have my personality, we have our ideas and I want to give us confidence to be stronger in working this way.
“I said at the first press conference at the Emirates, for me I have high respect for Arsene.
“In Nyon every year, he spoke and the other coaches were quiet and listened to him.
“I am going to do my work here, but respecting many, many things here that he did well.”
Arsenal's Aubameyang scores hattrick in first pre-season match
Emery got off to a good start as Arsenal boss with the Gunners kicking their pre-season campaign off with an 8-0 victory at Boreham Wood.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a hat-trick with Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also on the scoresheet.
Aubameyang said: “I’m really happy and I think today what was important was the work of the team.
“We had great work in the first half, so I’m really happy and everyone played well, so that's good.”
