Harry Kane: Ian Wright reveals why England star struggled in last three games
HARRY KANE got off to a blistering start to the World Cup but failed to score in his last three games of the competition - so what went wrong for the England captain?
Kane is still looks more than likely to win the Golden Boot, after scoring in his first three appearances.
However, he failed to find the net in the quarter-final against Sweden, semi-final loss to Croatia and third-place play-off defeat to Belgium today.
Kane’s goals drying up was ultimately a big factor in England not reaching their first World Cup final since 1966.
Former England striker Ian Wright suggested that the Tottenham man may have been playing with an injury.
What you’re finding and what you’re seeing with Harry at the moment is him out on the left, out on the right, he’s out of the box
And he compared Harry Kane’s performance to that of Mario Mandzukic, who was fit enough to score late in extra time for Croatia in the semi-final on Wednesday.
“When you look at the goal Mandzukic scored, it was late in the game, he was in the area where you’re going to score a goal,” Wright said on ITV.
“What you’re finding and what you’re seeing with Harry at the moment is him out on the left, out on the right, he’s out of the box.
“Really we want him right in there and he didn’t seem to be able to get in there.
Harry Kane states England 'can be proud of achievements'
“Whether that was him or whether he was injured, I don’t know what it was.”
Belgium beat England 2-0 thanks to goals from Thomas Meunier and Eden Hazard.
Croatia will play France in the final in Moscow tomorrow.
