Liverpool transfer news: Real Madrid reports over Marco Asensio move 'wide of the mark'
LIVERPOOL have not made a club-record bid to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, reports claim.
Liverpool have emerged as suitors for Asensio, who may quit Real Madrid for more game time this summer.
The Spain international, whose World Cup is over after his side’s shock penalty shootout defeat to Russia yesterday, has spent the majority of his time at the Bernabeu being stuck on the bench.
Reports have claimed Liverpool are ready to welcome him to Anfield with open arms, having moved on from Lyon hotshot Nabil Fekir.
Fekir appeared set to sign on the dotted line but, despite him posing in a Reds jersey, the transfer fell through.
That has led to talk that Liverpool have made a huge £150million bid for Asensio.
But the Liverpool Echo claim this was not the case.
It is said that the report was ‘wide of the mark’ and the Reds have NOT tabled an offer - yet.
However, the Liverpool Echo do suggest that Asensio may be more attainable now that Spain are out of the World Cup.
Liverpool sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January, receiving a huge £142million in return.
And that means Jurgen Klopp has the financial muscle to test Real’s resolve over Asensio.
The 22-year-old played it cool when asked about a move to Liverpool before Spain’s World Cup exit.
Liverpool fan says Nabil Fekir a good fit for the club
“Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we'll talk about that sort of thing, now I'm focused on selection,” he said.
But his agent, Horacio Gaggioli, has revealed Real HAVE rejected a bid from England for his client.
"Real Madrid have received two offers for Marco Asensio, of up to €150 million (£132 million) but the club turned them down,” he said.
“You can imagine that they come from England because they can afford it without any problems.
“They could even raise it. He has an extraordinary future."
