Sergio Ramos goal: Spain star celebrates World Cup strike… but it didn’t touch him!
SERGIO RAMOS thought he’d scored for Spain at the World Cup against Russia today - but replays suggest it was an own goal.
Ramos celebrated wildly after seemingly bundling the ball into the net early in the first half.
The goal earned Spain a 1-0 lead over hosts Russia in Moscow.
But on closer inspection it appears as though Sergei Ignashevich actually got the last touch.
The 38-year-old veteran was caught off-guard in Spain’s free-kick routine and ended up facing Ramos as the ball came across goal.
And it appeared to bounce off his calf and into the net as he fell into the Spain defender.
WORLD CUP LIVE: SPAIN VS RUSSIA
Despite the own goal, Ramos ran off celebrating as though it was his own and made a number of gestures to the closest TV camera before heading back into his half.
Former England player Chris Waddle said on 5Live: “This is the World Cup of set-pieces.
“Sergio Ramos was strong at the back post, there was only one thing on his mind.
“The Russia player marking him was not even looking at the ball.”
