Liverpool plotting Real Madrid double swoop to thwart Arsenal transfer plans
LIVERPOOL are plotting to sign Real Madrid duo Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio to frustrate Arsenal’s transfer plans.
Liverpool have already signed two players this summer and more arrivals are expected.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to capitalise on their 2017/18 campaign which saw the Anfield club make the Champions League final.
A title challenge is expected next term and Klopp is well underway in his recruitment drive.
And Spanish newspaper Marca claim the boss is wants to bring one of Real’s attacking stars to Anfield this summer.
Winger Vazquez and attacking sensation Asensio are supposedly on Klopp’s radar.
Marco Asensio
Liverpool’s interest in Asensio has been known for some time, with the playmaker regularly linked with a move to the Premier League last term.
His relationship with former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was thought to be a driving factor in his potential move to England but now Julen Lopetegui is in charge a deal may prove tough to broker.
Real are expected to offload one of their forward stars this summer, although Gareth Bale is currently the favourite to leave ahead of Asensio.
Marca claim Liverpool remain interested in the Spain gem, however.
Lucas Vazquez
As for Vazquez, the report outlines Arsenal are keen on securing a deal for the Real Madrid academy product as Unai Emery pushes ahead with his transfer plans.
The Gunners have already signed a new goalkeeper in Bernd Leno and defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, with Sokratis Papastathopoulos expected to join this month.
Emery’s main task is to sort out an ailing defence but winger Vazquez has been identified as a viable attacking target.
Marca claim Chelsea and AC Milan are also eyeing Vazquez but that Liverpool remain in contention for his signature.
The Reds have already landed Naby Keita and Fabinho this summer and missed out on a move for nabil Fekir in June.
