Joachim Low: Germany manager answers quit claims after World Cup exit
JOACHIM LOW has refused to deny he will quit as Germany national team manager after their World Cup exit today.
World Cup: Fans CRY after Germany defeated by South Korea
Germany manager Low oversaw a disastrous campaign that resulted in their exit from Group F.
A 2-0 defeat to South Korea today meant Sweden and Mexico qualify for the last-16.
It also leaves Germany red faced as their World Cup title defence ends in humiliation.
And Low has refused to commit to whether or not he will still be in the job next season.
Asked about his future in the national team set-up, Low said: "It's too early for me to answer that question."
Low has a contract with Germany that runs until the end of the 2022 campaign.
It's too early for me to answer that question
That would encompass the next European Championships and World Cup.
The German FA this week insisted Low would not be sacked if the national team exited the World Cup today.
"We decided in the DFB executive committee before the World Cup to offer a contract extension," said German FA boss Reinhard Grindel.
"We believe there will be a transition that will take place after the World Cup, regardless of the outcome of the tournament, and no-one is better equipped to handle that than Jogi Low."
There are reports Arsene Wenger is already the frontrunner to take over from Low if he does indeed leave.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also been mooted as a viable replacement.
Low added: "The disappointment of being eliminated is just huge.
"I think first of all we need to congratulate our two opponents who have made it out of the group.
"At this tournament we didn’t deserve to win again or move to the round of 16. We were eliminated not because we didn’t want to win but we never had the chance to take a lead at any point – we were always lagging behind, trying to keep up.
"We saw Sweden had taken the lead so we needed to keep the pressure up but our team was missing the ease of play and the classiness we usually have. So, we deserve to be eliminated yes."
