Antoine Griezmann NOT that good? Atletico Madrid striker SLAMMED for Barcelona decision
ANTOINE GRIEZMANN is “not that good” to have had to announce his decision to reject Barcelona’s advances and remain with Atletico Madrid via a special 45-minute TV documentary.
Antoine Griezmann announces he’s staying with Atletico
That’s the view of ESPN FC pundit and former Venezuelan international Alejandro Moreno, who has been far from impressed with Griezmann’s antics.
The France international was publicly courted by Atletico’s La Liga rivals Barca and was linked with an £89million - the figure of his release clause active from July 1 - exit this summer.
But despite the well-known interest from the Spanish top-flight champions, Griezmann revealed in a programme on Spanish television last night that he will stay in the capital with Europa League winners Atletico.
The controversial documentary, called ‘The Decision’, emphasised the difficulty of Griezmann’s situation in recent months and revealed that Griezmann made his decision to stay almost two weeks ago before delay his big reveal.
Look, just make your decision, tell us what it is and let’s move on. Everybody wants to move on from this.
And the suspenseful wait, and theatrical manner of his eventual announcement, irritated Moreno.
Discussing the events, he said on ESPN FC: “Call me old school, maybe I’m from a different generation, maybe I don’t know social media, maybe I don’t know people these days but this is unacceptable.
“We talked about [Real Madrid manager Julen] Lopetegui and the lack of focus on what is in front of him, it’s the same thing with Antoine Griezmann.
“Look, just make your decision, tell us what it is and let’s move on. Everybody wants to move on from this.
“We don’t want to talk about this anymore and certainly not about a video. Come on Antoine Griezmann, you are not that good.”
Griezmann - under contract at Atletico until 2022 after the new deal he signed last year, having turned down a move to Manchester United - is in Russia with the France national team this summer.
Les Bleus start their campaign tomorrow against Australia in their first group stage match (11am) and the 27-year-old will hope to be among the goals given the widespread criticism he has received on social media across the last 24 hours.
