Robbie Williams used his A-list celebrity contacts book to sign up heavyweights Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, Damian Lewis, Paddy McGuinness and Olly Murs for the sell-out match in Manchester.
A thrilling game saw both sides draw 3-3 at full-time leaving players having to line up for the dreaded penalty shoot-out to decide the winner.
But who won - was it England or the Rest of The World?
England is known for buckling under pressure in professional penalty shootouts for the World Cup and Euros.
But The Inbetweeners actor Blake Harrison, who plays Neil in the hit Channel4 comedy, scored the deciding goal to win it for the home side for once.
An elated Harrison, 32, posted a picture on Twitter after the game with actor David Harewood, writing: "What a buzz!!! @socceraid penalty Heroes!!
"Please donate to @UNICEF_uk if you enjoyed the game!"
England started strongly initially with goals from former Spurs player Darren Bent and footie freestyler Jeremy Lynch.
But Irish international Robbie Keane made it 2-1 before former Argentina star Juan Sebastian Veron equalised before half-time.
Further drama came in the second half with thrilling goals on both sides from Clarence Seedorf and Michael Owen.
Soccer Aid, which raises money for Unicef UK, tweeted a few hours that £5.5million had been raised while the match had its highest ever attendance.
The premier charity sporting event has run since 2006 when it was launched by showbiz pals Robbie Williams and TV presenter Jonathan Wilkes.
