Arsenal transfer news: Marouane Fellaini betting suspended as Man Utd deal closes in
ARSENAL are closing in on a deal for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, with UK bookmakers suspending their markets on the deal.
Arsenal: Former Gunner says Fellaini would be a MISS
Arsenal emerged as a viable destination for Belgium international Fellaini last month.
The Gunners have new manager Unai Emery in charge but they have a relatively small transfer budget of just £50m.
It means the north London club are trying to be smart in the transfer window and Fellaini will be a free agent at the start of July.
Arsenal are said to have spoken to the midfielder about a move to the Emirates.
And bookmakers Betway have closed their market on the transfer taking place.
It is understood United have not been willing to match Fellaini’s wage demands and are resigned to seeing him leave for free this summer.
The midfielder joined from Everton in 2013 in a £27m deal when David Moyes took charge of the club from Sir Alex Ferguson.
Now under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, Fellaini has blown hot and cold this season and was always expected to depart come the end of the campaign.
Mourinho doesn't want 'fantastic' Fellaini to leave Man Utd
Arsenal themselves are also keen on signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos - who supposedly snubbed Manchester United - and Stephan Lichtsteiner.
A deal for Fellaini could spell the end of Mohamed Elneny’s Gunners career.
