Chelsea news: I think it’s a done deal - Paul Mariner makes big claim
MAURIZIO SARRI’s deal to become the next Chelsea manager is “done”, despite Antonio Conte still being in charge.
That is the verdict of ESPN FC pundit and former Arsenal striker Paul Mariner.
Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea looks in serious doubt despite winning the FA Cup in what could turn out to be his final game in charge.
Sarri, who left Napoli last week, is the overwhelming favourite to replace his fellow Italian at Stamford Bridge if he were to leave.
And Mariner reckons it will not be long before Chelsea relieve Conte of his duties and appoint Sarri.
I think with Sarri, I think it’s a done deal. I think it’s just the semantics, the money, how long is the contract
“They do (still have a manager) but that’s never worried them in the past has it?,” Mariner said.
“They’re a little bit cutthroat to say the least.
“I think with Sarri, I think it’s a done deal.
“I think it’s just the semantics, the money, how long is the contract, and so on and so forth.
Marcotti says Maurizio Sarri in contention for Chelsea job
“I don’t think he’s going to be hanging around for too long, Sarri.
“He’s got other offers, so Chelsea have got to play this correct.
“They’ve got to play it quickly, so I say this is a winner.”
