LeBron James: Why Cavs star couldn’t care less about records and defeats
LEBRON JAMES insists records and even defeats do not matter to him because he always puts his all into every game.
That’s after the Cleveland Cavaliers star booked an eighth straight NBA Finals appearance with an 87-79 Game 7 win over the Boston Celtics.
James went off for 35 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists to lift Cleveland to their fourth straight Finals - having won twice and lost once in their previous three, all against the Golden State Warriors.
And after lifting the Conference’s silver trophy having yet again ruled supreme in the East, James opened up on what motivates him to keep overcoming his obstacles.
“At the end of the day the man above has given me a God-given ability and I just try to take full advantage of it,” James told ESPN.
Win, lose or draw, no matter what, you’ll never be able to get someone to say, ‘He didn’t leave it out on the floor’.
“Win, lose or draw, no matter what, you’ll never be able to get someone to say, ‘He didn’t leave it out on the floor’.
“Wins and losses and ties and things like that, that happens throughout the course of life. It’s just how you pick yourself up and how you continue to get better and better.
“The difference between me and a lot of people who have played the game of basketball, they get so in depth and so deep about putting everything into a game.
“I’m just true to who I am, true to my family, true to my team-mates and true to my craft and then at the end of the day, whatever happens, happens.
“I could care less about a Finals record, I could care less if I don’t play well at this game.
“Or if my team-mates don’t show up, because I know how much I put into the game and no-one can ever take that away from me.”
James and the Cavs will face the Warriors or the Houston Rockets in the Finals - their opponent to be decided at 2am tomorrow UK time.
