LIVERPOOL winning the Champions League this season would improve the chances of Egypt and Senegal impressing at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Liverpool winning the Champions League would be good news for Egypt and Senegal, says Odemwingie
That is the opinion of former West Brom star and Nigeria international Peter Odemwingie.
Liverpool are close to reaching the final of the Champions League after their semi-final first-leg win over Roma.
The Reds won 5-2 at Anfield last Tuesday, conceding two late goals to give Roma a glimmer of hope.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been instrumental in Liverpool’s success this season and both scored in the first leg at Anfield.
Sadio Mane is there, hopefully they can win the Champions League. That will inspire them to do bigger things
Salah is set to be named in the Egypt squad and Mane will likely get a Senegal call-up for the upcoming World Cup.
And Odemwingie believes a Champions League win for Liverpool would improve the confidence of the duo’s international team-mates.
“Mo Salah straight away comes to mind,” Odemwingie told ESPN.
“He will make Africa proud because he is the most in-form player at the moment.
Odemwingie says Champions League glory can give confidence to Sadio Mane and Mo Salah's team-mates
“Sadio Mane is there, hopefully they can win the Champions League. That will inspire them to do bigger things.
“It would give their teams a bit of confidence as well, that a boy like that is amongst us.
“If they can be a bit better defensively our African teams then I think they will have a bit of a chance.”
