Welbeck was taken down inside the area after a little contact from Ricardo Rodriguez.
And after a quick glance at his assistant, referee Jonas Eriksson awarded the spot-kick much to the fury of Milan players who were quick to challenge the decision.
However, the referee would not change his mind and Welbeck duly fired home to allow Arsenal to retake control.

But the controversial decision certainly got fans talking on social media.
“Poor poor Refereeing, i am an Arsenal fan,” said one fan.
Another wrote: “Was never a penalty and shouldn’t be a penalty today, tomorrow and in the future! The referee just messed up a very beautiful game!”
While one fan questioned the referees: “What a disgrace, what do those assistants do on the 6 yard box??”
