Olivier Giroud to Chelsea: Charlie Nicolas reveals ‘ideal’ Arsenal deal
OLIVIER GIROUD’s ideal destination would be Borussia Dortmund, says former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas.
Arsenal star Olivier Giroud is linked with a move to London rivals Chelsea
Giroud is closing in on an £18million move from Arsenal to London rivals Chelsea.
But Nicholas reckons the Gunners would much rather he moved abroad.
Arsenal are themselves close to signing Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a club-record fee.
Olivier Giroud was linked with a move in the opposite direction but he preferred to stay in London.
The ideal situation was for him to go to Dortmund or somewhere else abroad
Nicholas does not understand why Arsenal would sell to a direct rival, but can see a deal happening before tomorrow’s 11pm transfer deadline.
“I wouldn’t be surprised (if he joined Chelsea),” Nicholas said.
“People might say again ‘why would you sell to a rival? You’re competing for the top four’, so it doesn’t add up for Arsenal.
“The ideal situation was for him to go to Dortmund or somewhere else abroad.
Ray Parlour urges Arsenal to keep Olivier Giroud
Nicholas would prefer Olivier Giroud to join Borussia Dortmund over Chelsea
“That would have been the ideal scenario.
“Giroud I think will go out because Arsene Wenger said last week ‘if one comes in, one goes out’ and I think that is how it will work.
“I would be utterly surprised but then again, it wouldn’t surprise us on these deadline days if he does go to Chelsea.”
