Stoke have appointed Paul Lambert as their new manager
Lambert, 48, has signed a contract until the end of the 2019/20 season.
He is tasked with lifting Stoke out of the Premier League relegation zone.
He replaces Mark Hughes at the bet365 Stadium.
In a statement Stoke said: “When the club made a managerial change nine days ago we stated that we were looking to make an appointment as soon as possible, particularly given our position in the league and the over-riding priority being retaining our place in the Premier League.
“The club reviewed a number of people against the criteria set and met with a small number of parties who had expressed an interest in the job.”
Lambert last managed at Wolves but lost his job last year.
Paul Lambert achieved Premier League promotion with Norwich
Stoke chairman Peter Coates said: Peter Coates said: “Paul greatly impressed us with his knowledge of our squad and had a clear plan of how he would improve our results.
“He’s a man who backed himself as a player, none more so than when he turned down contract offers in Scotland to go on trial in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, and it’s obvious he adopts the same approach as a manager.”
Lambert started management at Livingston but got his big break at Norwich when he took the Canaries to back-to-back promotions between 2010 and 2011.
He left Norwich in May 2012 to take up the Aston Villa post, where he stayed until his sacking in February 2015.
The next season he joined Blackburn before heading to Wolves in November 2016.
Heh Scot kept Wolves in the Championship but at the end of the season was let go.
